FEAST helps gets soap off the ground

WATCH OUT ARCHERS, HERE WE COME!

Little local community radio Source fm is challenging the might of the BBC and the most famous radio soap opera in the world – the Archers.

This coming Tuesday 23rd February will see the launch of a totally new concept in radio drama – the Source fm’s own soap opera. “Everybody loves soaps,” says Patricia Finney who will be running the script-writing side of the venture, “but too often watching telly keeps people from talking to their neighbours and being part of their community. So this is a soap opera which will be written, acted and produced by the people who listen to it: it’s the first ever community-generated fiction serial.” The acting and directing will be organised by Dominic Power, actor and playwright who works with Miracle theatre and has written and directed many community plays. Seb Mifsud will be handling the technical side of things. The ideas is that people of all abilities will be able  to come along to the workshops and pick up the skills and experience to create the final project. “We’re all incredibly excited that FEAST have given us the budget to make seven episodes, including the pilot,” says Patricia, “And we’re really looking forward to hearing about amazing local characters and stories next Tuesday. The Source will be holding an open meetings on Tuesday 23rd February: 11.00 am Women’s Institute, Falmouth; and again in the evening at: 7.00 pm Seven Stars pub in Penryn. Come along and share your ideas for storylines, characters and locations.
