How do I get involved
Submitted by Veritee (not verified) on Tue, 27/10/2009 - 16:08.Hi
I live in Porkellis which is within 5 miles of you - I woudl like to get involved in your station - maybe as a volunteer. How do I do this?
I was a professional youth and community worker in Cornwall for 14 years and have always been interested in community media.
But I woudl also like to be considered for a slot on your radio about living with HIV in Cornwall.
I am openly living with HIV now - found out only 18 months or so ago but I have always been an activist on many issues, Since diagnosis I have trained as a HIV Positive speaker with a national HIV women organization PozFem UK: http://www.poz-fem-uk.org/ and am now their regional coordinator for Cornwall.
I would like to see if it is possible to talk on your radio station about living with HIV in Cornwall especially as a woman form a womans perspective but also about HIV in general, testing , awareness etc.
But I am also very knowledgeable about many other health issues and those that especially affect women. As a young worker one of my specialist interests was women s health, sexuality and relationships and I also founded a charity for women who suffer Post Natal Illness PNI ORG UK which I have been running for 12 years now: http://www.pni.org.uk
So I have a lot of experience and knowledge on this issue and as an offshoot other womens health concerns such as breast and cervical cancer, child and baby care, breastfeeding and much more.
Also having lived in a small Cornwall village for over 25 years I understand abotu living in a rural community in Cornwall.
Would there be any use for me with you. Especially to talk and advise about HIV and STIs , woman's health but also in any other capacity as a volunteer?
