DJ - BIG VERN BURNS
At the early age of 8 years old, I can remember combing my hair back with my Grandfather’s Brylcreem and dancing and singing along to my Mum’s record collection. Listening to 45’s, 78’s, LP’s and cassettes by great artists such as Jerry Lee Lewis, Carl Perkins, Bo Diddley, Elvis Presley, Chuck Berry, Bill Haley and The Kinks. From that point on I have always had a great interest in music and being a DJ, spending my pocket money down my local record shop.
By 19 I had my first DJ gig and haven’t really looked back since, playing all styles of music in lots of different venue’s and parties in and around London area. Then about 7 years ago I found myself right back where I started with a real passion for 50’s and 60’s music, playing Rockabilly, Garage, Freak-beat, Psyche, R&B & Soul regularly at Andrew Weatherall’s legendary “Double Gone Chapel”.
After which I moved to New York City for 5 years and took up residency at a the famous 15th street bar “The Passerby“ for it’s final year before closure after a decade of the coolest parties in NYC. Many of my weekend mornings were spent digging through boxes of records at various flea markets in Manhattan and Brooklyn before returning to England last December.
Now I wish to unleash my collection for the listeners of Source FM.
