Jazz Train Live at the Princess Pavilion- April 8th 2024

The third incarnation of the hugely successful Jazz Train Live concert took place on April 8th 2024 with yet another selection of guests from the extensive pool of talented jazz musicians living and working in the South West. Simon Latarche's resident quartet of Mike Rowlands (Sax), Sam Norman (Bass) and Keith Marshall (Drums) along with Simon at the piano, were joined on this occasion by Mike Higgs (Trombone), Sam Massey (Trumpet) and Jade Gall (Tenor Sax) plus an intimate stripped back duo set from Laura and Matt Arundell of ‘Laura and the Jazz Capsule’, playing tracks from their recent ‘Slow Down’ EP.

In front of another bumper crowd of over one hundred plus an online worldwide audience, the show opened with a premier of Simon’s latest composition ‘Blues For JTL’ written especially for the occasion, featuring a solo from all horn players on display during the evening. Each performer then had an opportunity to showcase their individual talents by playing a piece of their own choice with the quartet. On a blowy night in Falmouth, the event concluded with all musicians combining for the grand finale, performing a rendition of the rather appropriately titled jazz standard Stormy Weather by Harold Arlen.

The evening was yet another tremendous success and a genuine team effort from so many at Source. As always, professionally produced by Simon Neild, Carey Davies and Finn Loder were on hand to guarantee the superb sound quality that we have come to expect from such events, whilst fellow Jazz Train presenter, Andy Coote, assisted Simon with interviews and introductions.

The whole evening was once again recorded by Carey and his team whilst individual tracks from the evening are due to be played out on Source during the coming weeks.

Jazz Train Live will return!
