Tune in today at 10.00 am for the SourceFM Short Story Competition for Primary Schools Radio Special!
Join us as we celebrate the finalists and overall winner of the inaugural SourceFM Short Story Competition for Primary Schools, launched last year to encourage a love of creative writing among young people.
Hear the children read their winning stories in their own voices and enjoy interviews with the young authors as they share the inspiration behind their imaginative tales. We'll also be talking to their teachers and members of the judging panel about the creativity, enthusiasm and talent shown by this year's entrants.
Kindly sponsored by The Falmouth Bookseller and Mabecron Publishing, every finalist from Years 2 to 6 received a Certificate and a book prize at a special Awards Ceremony presented by the Mayor of Falmouth, Councillor Alan Jewell. The overall winner was also awarded the inaugural SourceFM Short Story Competition Trophy, which now takes pride of place at their school for the year.
Who was the overall winner?
You'll have to tune in today to find out! If you can't join us live, don't worry—you can catch up later using the Listen Again service on our website or through the SourceFM app.
Today's broadcast also marks the official launch of the 2026 SourceFM Short Story Competition for Primary Schools. This being the National Year of Reading, we’re excited to give young people a voice in our community through the airwaves and through the written word. We can't wait to see where this year's young writers' imaginations take them, and we look forward to sharing another wonderful collection of stories in next year's Radio Special.
We hope you'll enjoy listening to these talented young storytellers today. Their creativity, confidence and imagination are truly inspiring—and we have a feeling you'll be especially captivated by this year's winning story.
Happy listening!
